There are a great many things that are impressive about the seminary. From the immense graces that the Lord provides to the great theological insights afforded by the professors to the near immeasurable amount of work that is crammed into the final weeks. Couple this with the uncanny ability of seminarians to procrastinate [...]

My apologies for the lack of updates on this blog, suffice it to say that this year has been quite busy, we seminarians have had some great opportunities to promote vocations through High school talks, Junior High vocations basketball games, and Andrew dinners. These events are wonderful for promoting the beautiful call to the [...]

After highlighting the diaconate ordinations of the men in our house this year… I’m afraid I failed miserably to give due attention to “the main event(s)” in recent weeks. I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, but…
On Saturday May 23, seven men were ordained new priests for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

Thanks to Tricia Hempel and the Catholic Telegraph, we have some pictures from last Saturday’s diaconate ordinations in Cincinnati.
This was the setting I attempted to describe previously, as the ordinands sat in the sanctuary during Archbishop Schnurr’s homily. As you can see, it gave the sense of a small, intimate gathering to which [...]

To-be-ordained men Ian McDole and Kevin Kahmann, as Bishop Roger Foys [...]

The Catholic Telegraph has a fascinating blog that posts pictures and articles from the archives of our Archdiocesan newspaper. Yesterday, the focus was on Holy Trinity parish in Coldwater - my family’s home parish for the past fourteen years or so.
From their 1967 article:
“In 1867 there were only three Catholic families living [...]

This morning at the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, Kentucky, our seminarian brother Kevin Kahmann was ordained to the order of the diaconate.
It was a perfect day, in every sense. Blue skies, bright sun shining through the cathedral’s stunning stained glass windows… and in Covington they make sure that [...]

So I’ve been a deacon for a few months now, and my life is a little different. I’m a transitional deacon, which is a fancy way of saying it’s expected that I’ll be ordained a priest in less than a year (May 23, 2009 at 11am to be exact). During the summers we help out as [...]
